ACEIoT 2nd cohort defends PhD research proposals

The Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) at UR-College of Science and Technology held the second Doctoral Committee (DC) to hear from 13 PhD students defending their research proposals.

13 PhD students were enrolled in the Centre’s second cohort since September 2018. Each PhD student has been working with her/his PhD Research Proposal under the guidance of PhD Supervision Team. The doctoral committee meeting is organized as the first examination for approving the research proposal of the students as well as allocating the Core Disciplinary Graduate Modules related to research area and recommendations for further research.

Among PhD candidates who presented their proposals include Lule Emmanuel, an academic staff from the University of Makerere. Speaking after his presentation, he said that he joined the Centre due to unique aspect of the course, which is not available in any other East African country.

Lule whose research seeks to prevent fire outbreak in Uganda explained that the course implies the fourth industrial revolutions where all devices are going to be connected to the Internet. He further encouraged people to join the Centre because ; according to him, the Internet will command everything in the future.

The Doctoral Committee meets three times during a student’s PhD study period. The first meeting focuses on the PhD Research Proposal Presentation where every student is required to present his/her revised PhD proposal for further guidance and suggestions to improve the Proposal

For each PhD students, the Doctoral Committee comprises of the Main Supervisor, Internal/External Expert from Academic Institutions, External expert from Industry/ Research Institutions, Resident Co-Supervisor (Convenor) and the Director of ACEIoT / Head of PhD Studies of ACEIoT.
