Nyarugenge Campus men’s team and Busogo women crowned champions for intercampus volleyball competition

Over the last weekend an intercampus volleyball competition was organized at Huye campus. The competition brought together men and women volleyball teams from the University campuses. The competition was organized to revive sports activities in the University which up until now were not at the level required by the University.

The competition was simultaneously held on 4 different volleyball courts. The first day saw four (4) men’s team qualifying for the semi-finals. They included Busogo, Nyarugenge, Huye and Rukara campuses. In women’s category, teams that reached the final top four spots were from Gikondo, Busogo, Nyagatare and Huye Campuses.

In semi-finals, Busogo campus men’s team dominated and defeated Rukara campus in 3 straight sets to book their place in the competition finals. In the other pool, Huye Campus men’s team were 2 sets ahead Nyarugenge campus, but the later made the greatest comeback of the competition and eventually overcome Huye team to set for the final against Busogo ; finalists in the 1st pool.

In the female category, Busogo Campus team saw off Huye Campus to compete for the title against Gikondo Campus that ended Nyagatare team’s chance to progress in the competition.

In the final, Nyarugenge Campus men’s team was crowned champions after a hard-earned victory defeating Busogo Campus in the 5th tie-breaker set and finally won the intercampus volleyball competition. In women’s category, Busogo Campus secured the podium finish in the same competition after defeating Gikondo Campus.

The competition was officiated by Dr Raymond Ndikumana, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Administration who also has sports and welfare in his responsibilities. In his remarks, he commended all the 8 teams involved in the competition especially the winners. He also expressed his satisfaction to organizers and pledged full support from the University management to revive sports activities in all disciplines.
