Prof. Martin Ntawubizi is a full time Associate Professor of Bioscience Engineering (Animal Breeding and Genetics), a One Health (OH) Mentor and Dean (School of Veterinary Medicine), at the University of Rwanda, with more than 20 years of academic experience. He completed his Doctoral research (PhD) in “Applied Biological Sciences : Agricultural Sciences-Animal Production” program at Ghent University, Belgium (2009), and has since contributed to the advancement of quality education and research in Animal Science and One Health (OH), including curriculum development/review, academic and research mentoring, consultancy, etc.

His research interests include (but not limited to) Animal genetics (quantitative) and breeding, Food safety, OH, Sustainable livestock production, Animal welfare and bioethics.

His keen research interests in sustainable management of Animal genetic Resources (AnGRs) led him to securing and completing a post-doctoral fellowship, from 2025 to 2017, and attended high-level fellowship programs in “Genetic Resources and Intellectual Property Rights” (IPRs, in 2013) and “Ethical Issues in Global Health Research” (July to October 2018, University of Rwanda), respectively supported by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Uppsala, Sweden) and Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health (Longwood, Boston).

He has contributed to various regional research projects/programs, as a (Co)-PI. Dr Ntawubizi has long served as a member of the Technical Working Group (TWAG), developing benchmarks for the East African Community (EAC) One Health Curriculum (EAC and ILRI-COHESA Project, 2023), and the benchmarks for East African Community (EAC) Food Safety Curriculum (ILRI-FAO Project, 2021).
