The University of Rwanda wins a prestigious grant to give impetus to eLearning

The University of Rwanda has been granted €349.163 which will improve quality of teaching content through the use of cutting edge technology. UR project titled “Ed Tech- Use of education technology to improve quality, continuity of teaching and learning” was successfully selected among the 9 best projects by Enabel’s Wehubit programme from Belgium.

The Ed tech project, intends to develop skills in use of multimedia contents, in education for about 90 academic staff and faculty. This includes the existing 30 e-champions and 60 academic staff from schools in STEM program. This activity will be further extended to all over 1,004 academics, with staff involved in STEM programs that will develop 2,470 modules.

In additional, STEM students will be trained on how to use the innovative technology tools, for them to acquire classes online, and be able to interact with the lecturers.

The grant initiative was driven by Dr Mathias NDUWINGOMA under the guidance of Deputy Vice Chancellor for academics and research Prof Nosa.O.Egiebor.

Dr Nduwingoma who also serves as the Director of the Centre of Open and Distance Learning reckons that the grant will be instrumental through introduction of several forms of teaching aids and tools adapted to modern education systems.

“We intend to establish a multimedia studio at Remera Campus to sustain digital education at UR,” he said, adding that there will be trainings for technicians on online pedagogy and institutional design using the studio for interactive content material.
