The release of Advanced Level results on 1 September has set the stage for an exciting new chapter at the University of Rwanda (UR). Very soon, fresh senior six graduates will begin their undergraduate application journey, just weeks after last year’s candidates closed their applications on 16 August.

UR is set to welcome hundreds of freshers as preparations for the upcoming graduation ceremony are in full swing
This means the 2025/26 Academic Calendar, set to kick off later this month, comes with a “double shift.” Rwanda’s only public university, and the largest higher learning institution in the country, will welcome thousands of new faces while also preparing to graduate those completing their academic journeys. The energy, diversity, and activity promise to make this one of the most vibrant starts to an academic year yet.
Of course, the enthusiasm comes with its challenges. Not all high-performing applicants secured admission in the recently concluded process, sparking many inquiries and appeals. UR staff, particularly in Communication and Registry, have been working around the clock to provide clarity and assistance.
“In order for candidates to know who gets admitted to UR programs, we encourage them to read the admission criteria which were published on our website because everything is there,” said University Registrar, Dr. Uwizeye Odette. The criteria can be accessed here.
The excitement doesn’t stop with new admissions. This year’s graduation ceremony, tentatively scheduled for October at UR Huye Campus, will once again bring together families, friends, and the UR community in a colorful celebration of academic excellence and resilience.
To all our new students : welcome to UR, a place where ambition meets opportunity. To our graduates : congratulations on your achievements. We can’t wait to celebrate with you !
