University of Rwanda-College of Education : UR academic staff empowered to produce high quality e-learning content

The University of Rwanda-College of Education is hosting a two weeks training workshop on Multimedia Production from 11th to 22nd February 2019 organized for UR teaching staff and IT technicians selected from different Colleges of the University of Rwanda.

The training was organized in the framework of the UNESCO-KFIT (Korea Foundation in Trust) project on ‘ICT Transforming Education in Africa’ in order to develop the participants’ technical skills and capacity to make enhanced e-learning content. The first phase of the training was held at the same place back in July, 2018 and this is the second and the last training for this project.

Please follow below the interview between Public Relations and Community Engagement Officer PR&CEO) and Ms. Dan Young Won ( Ms. D.Y.W) who is a member of the facilitators’ team.

PR&CEO : Who are the facilitators in this training ? Is there any particular assignment for each of them ? (individual tasks).

 

-PR&CEO : Can you please briefly introduce to our readers ?

-Ms. D.Y.W : I am Ms. Dan Young Won. I am Program Specialist in the Office of International

 Affairs, Korea National Open University (KNOU). I am part of the Korean

  consultants in on-site Training on Multimedia Production for UR staff taking place

 here in Rukara Campus.

 

-PR&CEO : Can you please give us a brief background on this training ?

-Ms D.Y.W : Korean National Open University organized the on-site training at University of Rwanda (UR) at Rukara within the framework of the UNESCO-KFIT (Korea Foundation in Trust) project on ‘ICT Transforming Education in Africa’. This on-site training was initiated in accordance with the beneficiary institution’s request, UR, to develop the participants’ technical skills and capacity to make enhanced e-learning content. The first training was held at the same place back in July, 2018 and this is the second and the last training for this project.

 

-PR&CEO : Who are the facilitators in this training ? Is there any particular assignment

 for each of them ? (Individual tasks).

 

-Ms.D.Y.W. : There are 4 consultants and 1 administrative staff from KNOU ; these are ;

 - Prof. Ji Young Shim (Dept. of French Language and Literature) ;

 - Dr. Sang Hong Kim (Institute of Distance Education) ;

 - Mr. Jin Tae Kim (Head of Technical Department at Digital Media Center ;

 - Mr. Kuy Cheol Choi (Editing Director of e-Learning Production Department, Digital

 Media Center), and myself. 

 

Concerning their tasks, Prof. Shim and Dr. Kim will give lectures on how to make lecture notes and to use the office mix program to make good e-learning content. Mr. Kim and Mr. Choi will set up the multimedia studio and give guidance on how to operate the equipment. And my tasks here, is to coordinate overall environment and provide administrative support as an administrative officer.

-PR& CEO : What is the main purpose of this training ?

-Ms. D.Y.W.  : The main purpose of this training is to strengthen the UR trainees’ capacities in

   producing high quality educational content with the multimedia studio

  equipment and editing software.

 

-PR&CEO  : Who are the participants in this training ?

-Ms. D.Y.W : There are 59 trainees from UR and 5 trainees from Rwanda Education Board. 30 trainees out of 64 UR trainees are the ones who participated in the 1st on-site training. Because they couldn’t complete the second half of the training at that time (mainly the practical session), they are invited to participate in the second week of the 2nd on-site training to complete their training.

-PR&CEO  : What is your training course outline ?

Ms. D.W.Y. : For the first week, theoretical lectures will be given to help trainees understand the basic concepts of e-learning and lecture note making. In the meantime, the multimedia studio will be set up by KNOU technical experts. In the second week, 30 trainees of the 1st on-site training will join and the practical training and its feedback will be intensively provided to all trainees in the multimedia studio.

-PR&CEO  : What is the expected outcome of this training on the delivery of quality of

 education in the University of Rwanda ?

 

-Ms. D.W.Y. : We expect that trainees will learn how to make good lecture notes and use the office mix tool to produce a high quality of e-learning contents. They are also expected to set up the studio and properly operate the equipment. They will acquire the basic editing skills and knowledge through utilizing the editing software (Adobe premiere). At the end, they will understand the overall process of producing high quality educational content from recording to editing through the use of new equipment and editing tool.
