UR Celebrates Newly Promoted Professors with Inaugural Lectures

The University of Rwanda organized another ceremonial event to celebrate the promotion of four academic staff to the rank of full professor. The ceremony, called the "Professorial Inaugural Lectures," provided an opportunity to showcase the exciting and groundbreaking research and teaching being conducted by the newly promoted professors.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Raymond Ndikumana, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Administration, expressed his satisfaction with the increase in the number of UR professors over the years. He highlighted the growth from three professors when UR was established to over 40 professors eleven years later, emphasizing the significance of this milestone and encouraging everyone to celebrate together.

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kayihura Didas, who emphasized that celebrating the accomplishments of professors is essential for fostering a strong team spirit within the University and raising its reputation. He thanked the professors for promoting unity within the UR academic community and highlighted the university’s goal of celebrating achievers to enhance unity and contribute to social and economic transformation in Rwanda and the region.

The four academic staff promoted to the rank of full professor are Prof. Masengesho Kamuzinzi, specializing in Public Policy Analysis & Strategy ; Prof. Donatilla Mukamana, specializing in Mental Health Nursing ; Prof. Marie Jeanne Mukazayire, specializing in Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Sciences ; and Prof. Lakhan Lal Yadan, specializing in Physics & Physics Education.

In his closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor encouraged UR researchers and scientists to collaborate and develop original contributions that benefit Rwanda and beyond.
