Uppsala University Officials visit UR

On Monday the 21st August 2017 a delegation from one of Sweden’s best Universities visited the University of Rwanda to discuss possible areas of future collaboration. The Swedish team was led by Prof. Leif Kirsebom, a specialist in cell and molecular biology and others in the delegation included Kay Svensson, the university deputy director, Monica Martensson, Cecilia Oman and Helena Eklund.

The team was welcomed by the UR senior management led by the vice chancellor Prof.Phil Cotton, together with Prof. Nelson Ijumba the deputy vice chancellor in charge of academics and research and Amb.Dr.Charles Murigande, in whose docket the affairs of UR’s advancement are assigned.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor said that UR is in exciting times where the first students registered after the creation of UR will be graduating on 25th/08/2017 and that the university he heads is looking forward to partnering with Uppsala University in various fields of mutual interest.

Founded in 1477 , Uppsala University is Sweden’s first university.

The proposed interdisciplinary clusters UR intends to collaborate with Uppsala include:

-Agriculture transformation and food security
-Social economic transformation and sustainable development
-Environment and Natural resources management and climate change
-Inclusive governance, peace and security
-Urbanisation, green cities and human settlements
-Transformation, ICT and knowledge management
-Health and wellbeing for all
-Sustainable energy and manufacturing
-Transformative education, cultures and creative arts
-Transport and Logistics

The delegation from Uppsala University also toured the UR science laboratories at the college of science and technology.
