African Centre of Excellence in Data Science joins World Data Science Initiative

12-10-2020

The African Centre of Excellence in Data Science (ACE-DS) of the University of Rwanda, College of Business and Economics, has become an official member of the World Data Science Initiative (WDSI). They are the first African institution to be granted this membership.

In order to become a full member of WDSI, ACE-DS was required to undergo accreditation by the Data Science Council of America (DASCA) to validate ACE-DS’ capabilities to administer and deliver high quality data science education. DASCA professional certifications are the world’s most advanced cross-platform credentials of their kind. As a proven leader in data science education and research in Africa, ACE-DS’ capabilities made them a perfect match for DASCA accreditation. Aiming to catalyze African industrial and economic growth through the latest data science technologies, they are now offering training programs for DASCA’s qualifications in Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Data Science.

With this, ACE-DS now joins the massive mission of WDSI to build a global workforce of 250,000 data science professionals. WDSI provides the opportunities necessary for ACE-DS to cultivate a large pool of highly trained expert data science professionals not only locally in Rwanda but throughout other parts of Africa as well. “Data Science education and research are very important to solving many development challenges, so we are glad to bring that to Rwanda and East Africa. We are extremely excited and proud to join the World Data Science Initiative,” Dr. Charles Ruranga, Director of ACE-DS, said.
