Call for Applications -University of Ghana School of Public Health WHO HRP Alliance International Postgraduate Scholarship Academic Year 2020/2021

University of Ghana School of Public Health (UGSPH) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Human Reproduction Programme (HRP) Alliance is pleased to invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for a place in the following full-time postgraduate programmes, with focus on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Implementation Research, for the 2020/2021 academic year, commencing August 2020.

  1. Master’s Degree Scholarship (Master’s in Public Health - 12 months, fulltime)
  2. PhD Scholarship (48 months – fulltime)

The scheme, UGSPH HRP Alliance Hub, provides scholarships for fulltime studies. Only applicants from WHO African Region are eligible to apply.

The goal of this scheme is to enhance graduate training capacity building and boost the number of sexual and reproductive health and rights researchers in African countries. Thus, the training will be focused on courses relevant to a career in sexual and reproductive health and rights implementation research with focus on ousting preventable maternal morbidity and mortality, improving neonatal health, ensuring delivery of quality sexual and reproductive health services, prevention of violence against women and girls and adolescent sexual and reproductive health needs, and other SRHR related areas. This therefore supports the identification of health system bottlenecks in SRHR and approaches to addressing them. 

 

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a citizen of any of the countries in the WHO African Region 
  • Applicants should normally be under 35 years old for the Master’s programme, and under 40 years of age for the PhD programme.
  • Applicants must meet the standard University of Ghana admission requirements for international graduate students

Scholarship Package

The scholarship is tenable at the University of Ghana, School of Public Health and covers :

  • Full tuition fees
  • Full research costs towards dissertation/thesis
  • Monthly stipend to cover living expenses including accommodation, equivalent to local living cost.
  • Return economy airfare between the home country of the student and Accra, Ghana.

 

 

How to Apply

Stage 1 (For all prospective applicants)

All prospective applicants must first submit the following documents to their country/local office for screening and shortlisting (and interview where necessary) :

  1. Cover letter
  2. Full Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. Personal statement 

 

Stage 2 (for only shortlisted applicants)

  1. Fill and submit University of Ghana online application form
  2. Full Curriculum Vitae (mode of submission of documents will be communicated to the individual candidates).
  3. Completed UGSPH WHO HRP Hub international graduate scholarship application form
  4. Personal statement 
  5. At least one reference. Referees should email their recommendations directly to
     
    whohrp-ghanahub@ug.edu.gh 
  6. Evidence of submission of University of Ghana application for admission into relevant postgraduate programme.

 

Stage 3 (for only shortlisted applicants)

  1. Shortlisted candidates participate in competitive scholarship qualifying examinations to be administered by the University of Ghana School of Public Health.
  2. Successful candidates will be notified by 15th June 2020

 

Note : Awarding of Scholarship is subject to gaining admission to the University of Ghana. Only successful applicants would be contacted.

Results

Successful applicants will have 14 calendar days to confirm acceptance after notification of offer. After this date, it will be assumed that the student is unable to take the scholarship and will be given to the next available qualified applicant. The University of Ghana School of Public Health WHO HRP Alliance Hub reserves the right to refuse or terminate the scholarship if any information provided in support of the application is false.
