New CMHS Principal vows to uphold college’s values and consolidate its successes

Yesterday, the Vice Chancellor presided over the handover between the outgoing Principal of the College of Medicine and Health Science Assoc. Prof Jeanne Kagwiza and incoming Principal Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike. The event which took place at CMHS premises attracted heads of departments and units at the college as well as senior managers from the University.

In her remarks, Prof. Kagwiza hailed staff and partners who contributed for the successes that the College witnessed during her tenure. She also expressed her gratitude to Almighty God for protection while highlighting great achievements already made and other great plans in the pipeline.

Speaking on the occasion, the incoming Principal Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike expressed his commitment to uphold CMHS achievements and values which will ultimately consolidate its successes.

While presiding over the handover, the Vice Chancellor Dr Didas Kayihura commended the outgoing Principal for her excellent effort and spirit which contributed to CMHS recent milestones. He mentioned among others a successful East African Community inspection which labelled Dental and Medical Schools among the best in the region. Kayihura also appreciated incoming Principal for his choice to join UR and assured him support in achieving the College’s mission to train health Professionals.

“You have assumed new responsibilities in a college with great dreams ; this requires a strong and visionary leader to realize those dreams,” said Kayihura, adding that Prof Abraham’s vast experience from different institution will be vital for the new appointment.

Who is Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike ?

Professor Abraham Haileamlak Mitike, is a Professor in Pediatrics and completed additional training in pediatric cardiology in Israel at the Wolfson Medical Center (WMC). Professor Abraham has initiated, in cooperation with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, the construction of a new hospital which will include the first pediatric cardiac center in Jimma, Ethiopia. He has been a consultant in the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia. He also served as the Vice-President of Jimma University, Ethiopia for six years ; as Jimma University, College of Public Health and Medical Sciences (CPHMS) Head of Faculty for five years ; as the University professor for Seven years.
