UR and Partners vow to strengthen collaboration for a skilled workforce amid stakeholders interface

For the second consecutive time, the University of Rwanda organized its annual Stakeholders Interface, an event dedicated to fostering discussions on strengthening university-stakeholder collaboration in advancing education and shaping the nation’s future. This year’s interface was themed "Co-Creation for an Impactful Workforce," where participants reflected on shared achievements and strategies to ensure a skilled, adaptable workforce capable of addressing real-world challenges and driving sustainable progress.

In his welcoming remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Kayihura Didas commended stakeholders for their contributions to the university’s growth in various areas, including capacity building, infrastructure development, internship opportunities for UR students, recognition of top graduates, and inspiring new students during induction. He also encouraged stakeholders to actively participate in the development and delivery of the university’s curriculum.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Vice Chancellor Françoise Kayitare highlighted the university’s projects, particularly infrastructure developments made possible through partnerships with various stakeholders. She also acknowledged the contributions of university staff whose proposals have secured numerous successful research grants. According to her, as the University of Rwanda undergoes transformation, it is also making a positive impact on surrounding communities. She further noted that university projects funded by different stakeholders have created over 3,000 jobs over the last seven years.

The Stakeholders Interface featured panel discussions with representatives from reputable institutions, including the Rwanda Ministry of Labor, the National Council for Science and Technology, EF Education First, the Institute of Engineers Rwanda, and the University of Rwanda. Key discussion topics included the competencies required from graduates and university-industry linkages. Additionally, discussions emphasized private sector engagement, the acquisition of soft skills, and competency development while students are still studying.

The event also featured an exhibition of young innovators and entrepreneurs from UR, who showcased their products, including those already on the market as well as prototypes.

The Stakeholders Interface provided an opportunity to recognize recent top graduates for their outstanding performance. The awards were presented by the University of Rwanda in collaboration with various stakeholders.
