UR expect benefits from EQIP and TELLS projects

On 21stDecember, 2021, the University of Rwanda hosted an open day of two projects ; Enhancing Quality and Internationalization of Study Programme through Mobile Transformative Pedagogy (EQIP) and Transformative Education and Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Growth (TELLS) that are funded by the Norwegian government in three African universities and one European university. At UR, the projects are implemented respectively through the College of Education and College of Science and Technology.

These projects intend to establish and implement a framework for mutual staff mobility to create and deliver joint courses, co-supervise students’ projects so as to produce globally competitive graduates with a global mindset as part of their professional and social culture sustainability, environment, gender perspectives and inclusion and mutual respect.

Dr. Mathias Nduwingoma, the Director of the Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) at the University of Rwanda, says that these projects will focus on promoting education and training in technology and policy development partnering with four Universities namely University of Agder (Norway), University of Makerere (Uganda), Jimma University (Ethiopia) and University of Rwanda.

“We are focusing on the promotion of transformative pedagogy in internationalization of study program and advancing technology that enhances learning" said Mduwingoma.

He added that they also aim at improving infrastructure technology in four universities as members of the projects. At the University of Rwanda, projects are planning to have bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in technology enhanced learning. The other important activity is that they will train PhD students and post- doctorate staff.

Nduwingoma went on saying that these projects which started in 2019 were supposed to work well in 2020 but they have been challenged because of the COVID 19. They didn’t reach on their objectives as they had planned on last year.

Prof. Bideri Ishuheri, the director of research who was representing the UR Vice- Chancellor in the open day of EQIP and TELLS projects said that the projects would be productive in terms of technology and enhancing skills and knowledge in Rwanda and around the world.

“What the University of Rwanda expects from these projects is to develop interdisciplinary program based on academic program that aligns with Rwanda development needs and integrity information technology-based resources from around the world and train persons for sustaining online and blended learning in Rwanda and in the world”
